WHOIS Related Issues

First Roundtable discussion on WHOIS related issues under Internet Governance was held on Tuesday, 28th July, 2015 from 4-6 pm at Department of Electronics & IT (DeitY), Ministry of Communications & IT, Electronics Niketan, 6, CGO Complex, New Delhi. The Roundtable had focused on “WHOIS Accuracy v/s Privacy”. Dr. Ajay Kumar, Joint Secretary, DeitY, chaired the Roundtable. The main objective of the Roundtable was to seek expert input from all stakeholders at the national level, on various issues related to WHOIS (domain name) which are currently being discussed at the Public Safety Working Group (PSWG), an internal working group of Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN. This roundtable was also to serve as a platform to discuss WHOIS policy / implementation issues for .IN registry. In this consultation, the roundtable participants were Registrars, Law Enforcement Agencies, Civil Society, Academia, Private sector experts as well as Government functionaries. Subsequently, the views expressed by stakeholders had been assimilated into a report that will help in shaping India’s policy with regard to its stand on WHOIS issues at ICANN / IETF, as well as for .IN Registry.
